In this era of people (here, women) facing harassment, eve-teasing, rape by men, post their issues anywhere socially always are reverted by the statement, not all men or say #NotAllMen.
Social media is seeing this hashtag for the past 10 yrs. and this phrase is older than your great grandfather. How?
Miss Wardle: Men are such deceivers.
Mr. Tupman: They are, but not all men.
This is the scrape from the popular novel 'Pickwick Papers' (1836) by Charles Dickens.
Whenever any crime against women takes place anywhere in the world, men, who do not get involved tend to be a 'good man' impose the same hashtag also abbreviated as NAMALT. They consider this as their defense mechanism. Feminism has always focused on equality among everyone despite gender. Even feminists initially found it worthy and this phrase was also part of 'The Feminist Movement'.
Whether it is about the 2015 Bengaluru mass gathering and molestation, murder of a woman police officer in America by a man, Man stabbing his wife in Delhi during the daytime (seriously? even then), women complaining about sex calls when she gave her number for COVID emergency, also, when #MeToo trended, This NAMALT has never failed to amaze us with its presence.
As time passed, the hashtag started to become toxic. Well, yes.
Enough with the statements, let's talk about the impact of #NotAllMen.
- Shows the fragility of men when they are targetted.
- Snatches attention from the Women's issue.
- Shatters a woman's hope of you listening to her issue and also demolishes the courage when she decides to speak.
- Shows carelessness and selfishness of men.
- We know, NOT ALL MEN.
We, the women agree that men are facing issues and are burdened under toxic masculinity (tells how a man should be). The thing is, whenever a woman faces violence mentally or physically, tries to tell us about the trauma, men take advantage and say they too are the victims. Why is it always so when a woman explains her issue, men get the reminder of their own time of brutality? We do support you. My dear men, your issues are not small enough that they need a vast issue to be covered (Vast issue you ask? it is because not every man but most women). Violence is still violence whether it victimizes any gender and there's not and there's never been a competition of who has faced more plight.
It's us, who can create a sympathetic environment and help each other.
If in the world where stigma runs of women, not being good drivers, not being funny, being jealous of others, doing fashion, gossiping, etc. is made a mockery of, then #NotAllMen is nothing but stupid.
If it doesn’t apply to you, it’s not about you.
Amazing work!! Displays truth of the society aptly.
